For she alone has Jesus Christ on the altar…” is a statement from St Padre Pio give or take a few words. I have to check the accurate quote.
For all that is going on, I cling to the Catholic Church. And not just me. Many people throughout history and now continue to love and support the Catholic Church.
I live in NYC and although everyone was up in arms about the mayoral election I was more disturbed by the DFF paper about the Blessed Mother.
Mayors come and go but eternity is on the altar of any Catholic Church. I did not understand the document issued from the Vatican and I found myself mindlessly scrolling Facebook, the opium of my brain, to see what others thought about what was published on Tuesday. Then I realized hey, maybe I should look it up and find my own opinions.
Spoiler alert: Dicastery for the Doctrine of Faith released a doctrinal note approved by Pope Leo XIV which explains that the Blessed Virgin Mary is “Mater Populi Fidelis” or the Mother of the Faithful People and not Co-Redemptrix.
I have read some spiritual books and I always feel like I have the facts right here but maybe in another jacket or another brain cell that I have since lost due to above mentioned opium (facebook).
There was two things clarified in the above mentioned document 1- Jesus is the only savior 2- hence co redemptor and mediatrix is not acceptable terms unless you understand the meaning of mediatrix to be like an intercessory prayer line.
I saw Father Chris Alar spoke about this and said that the terms are ok to still use if you understand the nuance. Which any properly catechized person would. Mama Mary is venerated not adored. Only the Blessed Trinity is adored.
I included a photo to explain :).
I will still be praying to my Mama as I always do and though I appreciate the Vatican and information given I am adjusting this to follow Father Alar who said it is not a sin to call Mama mediatrix or even co-redemptor if you understand Jesus is the only redeemer necessary. I hope this makes sense as I work it out in my own head.
To Jesus through Mary.
God bless us all.
